An integral part of the pre-Passover planning involves the selling of one’s hametz. According to Jewish law, we are supposed to rid ourselves from all hametz and utensils which have been used over the course of the year during Passover. The procedure is simple. We follow the custom of selling our hametz and utensils to a non-Jew. In this manner, the Biblical injunction regarding hametz is respected.
It is traditional when selling one's hametz to make a donation. In the spirit of Ma'ot Hittim (Wheat Money), a mitzvah about making sure people have food for Passover, and at this time of need for so many Israelis, Har Zion is raising money to fight food insecurity in Israel. The sellers fully empower and permit Dr. Ely Levine to sell all hametz possessed by the sellers – knowingly or unknowingly – as defined by Torah and rabbinic law, and to lease all places wherein hametz owned may be found. The sellers understand that the hametz will no longer be in their possession from Monday, Aprill 22 at 11 am until Tuesday, April 30 at 8:45 pm.
